Sugar from Brazil

Brazil is the leader in the sugar production in the world market which it proved in the year 2002 after selling a record amount of sugar and the sugar price dropped in the world market as a result of that. The sugar cane crops in Brazil are mostly used for making ethanol but they still lead in the world market in sugar production. Sugar is grown in Sao Paulo in large quantities constituting nearly 60 to 70 percent of sugar grown in Brazil. States of Pernambuco and Agolas also produce sugar but in lesser quantity.

Many buyers place their orders for sugar an year or two even before the crops are planted. This happens because of the demand for Brazilian sugar in the sugar market. Brazil produces sugar in large quantities but very less is refined and sold to buyers. Most of the buyers buy sugar and refine them in their countries. The unrefined sugar is called the ICUMSA. The Brazilian people are the biggest consumers of sugar produced in their country and buy sugar even if the prices fluctuate. The other countries that buy sugar from Brazil are United States, Argentina and China.
